About Me

“Where’s mom?”

“She’s in her chair.”

This is a common conversation that can be had between any two people in my household at just about any time of day.

I love books. I love coffee. I love drinking coffee and reading books while sitting in my blue chair. So much so that my daily, early morning ritual is to do just those things before my children are up and out of their rooms. You can also find me in my chair reading most afternoons during “rest time.” Actually, my chair is more than just my cozy place, it’s also my teaching spot for a lot of our homeschool hours, as well as my office chair and command central.

As the anchor of my home library, a lot of life happens in and around the beloved blue chair.

When I’m not in the library, I’m taking care of my amazing husband Josh who is a Naval officer, as well as my 4 wonderful kids: Fitz (totally named after Mr. Darcy), Katrin, McKenna, and Caden. We are currently stationed in Florida.

I graduated from Texas A&M University in 2011 (Whoop!) with a degree in Civil Engineering. I used my degree for almost a decade before happily leaving my career behind to stay home with my children. Now I’m living my best life! I did not homeschool right away, as my oldest child had just started his kindergarten year at a private school. During that year though, my husband finished up his college degree to pursue going back into the military, and the Lord solidified our decision to educate our children at home. We have never looked back!

Combining my love for reading, homeschool, motherhood, and Jesus, I’m hoping this site can be a valuable resource for finding good books. Reading to my kids has been one of my greatest joys and now it’s my mission to help them choose their own books worth reading.

I’m Katie

Welcome to the Blue Chair Bookshelf. I am a book loving follower of Jesus hoping to share a virtual bookshelf of good reads for your children, and you too! I am a military wife and homeschooling mom to 4 kiddos. If you need me, I’m probably sitting in my blue chair.
